MADISON, NJ – The Johns Hopkins men's fencing team had three Blue Jays place in the top-10 at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional Saturday at Drew. The three top-10 finishes are the most in JHU history at the regional championship.
Sophomore
Jorge Gana led the Epee squad with a seventh-place finish. He went 9-12 through pool play, including 4-7 in the final round. Sophomore
Matthew Dao finished in 16
th place after going 10-6 on the day. Freshman
Ayan Bhatnagar finished in a tie for 17
th with an 8-8 record. Senior
Gabe Insler placed 29
th with a 6-5 record and freshman
Ethan Insler took 31
st place with a 3-3 record.
In the Foil, junior
Alan Zheng led the Blue Jays with a ninth-place finish. He went 11-10 in pool play, including 4-7 in the final round. Junior
Alex Paek went 5-6 on the day to finish in a tie for 27
th place. Freshman
Yi Peng Sha finished in 29
th place after going 5-6 in pool play.
Senior
William Hu led the Sabre squad with a seventh-place finish. He went 16-11 in pool play, including 5-6 in the final round. Sophomore
Alex Jeffords took 13
th place after going 5-5 on the day. Senior
Qilin Tong took 25
th place with a 1-4 record.
The 2024 NCAA Championship selections will be announced on Tuesday, March 12. The championships will take place March 21-24 in Columbus, OH.
