ATLANTA, GA – The eighth-ranked Johns Hopkins women's tennis team took down 20
th-ranked Tufts, 7-2, on Thursday morning at Emory. The Blue Jays improve to 8-3 on the season while the Jumbos fall to 2-4.
Hopkins swept the doubles matches to jump out to a 3-0 lead and then took four of the six singles matches. Sophomore

Sydney Langer took the first point of the match with an 8-4 win at number two doubles over Natalie Hu and Stephanie Woodbury. Graduate student
Ashley Chang and freshman
Samantha Wang then beat Lucy Mitchell and Steffy Julian, 8-7 (4), at three. Sophomore
Jay Xiao and freshman
Sophia Kim completed the sweep with an 8-7 (4) win over Zoe Kava and Rebecca Lim at one.
Kim earned the first singles' point of the match and pushed the Blue Jays' lead to 4-0 with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Mitchell at number three. Freshman
Lia Melvin then clinched the win when she beat Nikki Kintiroglou 6-2, 6-2 at six. Wang followed with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Julian at five and it was 6-0 Hopkins.
Kava grabbed a point for Tufts with a three-set win over graduate student
Mary Beth Hurley 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (7) at one. Langer answered with a win for the Blue Jays as she beat Hu 7-6 (4), 6-4 at four. Lim closed out the match with a 7-5, 1-6, 1-0 (5) win at two over Chang.
Hopkins returns to action on Friday, March 22 as the Blue Jays take on the seventh-ranked Emory Eagles. The match is slated for an 11:00 am start.
Notes: This was Hopkins' first win over Tufts since May 14, 2017 • JHU is now 3-2 all-time against Tufts in just the second regular season meeting between the two.
