CHESTERTOWN, MD – The 23
rd-ranked Johns Hopkins men's tennis beat host Washington College, 9-0, Wednesday afternoon for its first shutout of the season. The Blue Jays improve to 6-5 overall and 2-1 in the Centennial Conference, while the Shoremen fall to 4-7 on the season and 1-2 in the conference.
The Blue Jays swept doubles to jump out to an early 3-0 lead on the Shoremen before sweeping singles in straight sets.
Allen Gong and
Pranav Gadiraju grabbed the first point of the match as they needed just eight games to beat Johannes Ludwigstorff and Tichi Chialva at number three.
Hanyu Liu and
Chakor Rajendra then beat Kohl Perkins and Ryohei Kawai, 8-3, at number two.
Daniel Ardila and
Marco Azar completed the sweep with an 8-6 win at one over Karl Hoegstedt and Aaradith Ravichandran.
Gadiraju opened singles with a 6-1, 6-1 win at number five over Ludwigstorff to make it 4-0 Blue Jays. Liu then beat Ravichandran by the same score at four to clinch the win.
Arslan Orashev earned his first career singles' win with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Jorge Urgal Zuleta at six. Rajendra followed with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Perkins at three and JHU led 7-0. Gong then defeated Kawai 6-2, 6-3 at two and Ardila closed out the shutout with a 6-4, 7-6 (5) win at one over Hoegstedt.
Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, April 13 at Haverford. The Centennial Conference match is slated for a 2:00 pm start.
