BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins took down 40
th-ranked Christopher Newport, 6-3, in the second match of a doubleheader Sunday afternoon. The Blue Jays improve to 8-5 on the season while the Captains fall to 9-6.
With the match tied at one, Hopkins won four straight to secure the win.
Allen Gong and
Pranav Gadiraju put the Blue Jays up 1-0 when they beat Eddy Porsmyr Hansen and Ashton Legum, 8-3, at number one doubles. The Captains answered with an 8-5 win at number two.
Marco Azar and
Chakor Rajendra put JHU back on top with an 8-6 win versus Alex Seretis and Ahun Vodela at three.
Hanyu Liu pushed the Blue Jays' lead to 3-1 when he lost just one game in his win over Kumaresan at number three singles. Gong nearly turned the same trick, losing just two games at four over Ryan Monroe. Rajendra then clinched the win with a 6-0, 6-3 victory at two versus Hansen. Legum got a point back for the Captains with a 7-5., 6-3 win over Azar at five. Gadiraju answered with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Seretis at six. Vincent Truong closed out the match with a 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (3) win at one over
Daniel Ardila.
Hopkins returns to action on Tuesday, April 16 against Dickinson. The Centennial Conference match is slated for a 4:00 pm start.
