FREDERICKSBURG, VA – Seventh-ranked Johns Hopkins beat host and 24
th-ranked Mary Washington, 7-2, Saturday afternoon in non-conference action. The Blue Jays improve to 14-4 with their sixth straight win while the Eagles fall to 7-7.
Hopkins took a 2-1 lead after doubles and then grabbed five of the six singles' matches to take the win.
Sydney Langer and
Kamila Wong put the Blue Jays up early with an 8-1 win over Emily Beckner and Addison Felts at number two.
Samantha Wang and
Aubrey Zhou then beat Linda Dimitroff and Riley Smith, 8-2, at three. Amanda Hagino and Hana Kimmey answered with a tight 8-7 (4) win at one over
Sophia Kim and
Jay Xiao.
Wong needed just 13 games in her singles' match to push the Blue Jays to a 3-1 lead as she defeated Smith 6-1, 6-0 at six. Zhou followed with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Dimitroff at five. Xiao then clinched the victory with a 6-4, 6-2 win at three versus Kimmey. Langer pushed Hopkins' lead to 6-1 when she beat Felts 6-2, 6-2 at two. Kim rallied to beat Hagino 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 at one. Beckner ended the match with a close 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (5) win at four over Wang.
Hopkins is back on the court on Tuesday, April 23 as the Blue Jays host Gettysburg. The Centennial Conference match is scheduled for a 4:00 pm start.
