Johns Hopkins Blanks Gettysburg; Earns CC Top Seed

BALTIMORE, MD – Seventh-ranked Johns Hopkins beat visiting Gettysburg, 9-0, on Tuesday evening in Centennial Conference action. The Blue Jays earn their seventh straight win as they improve to 15-5 overall and 8-0 in the conference. The Bullets fall to 11-6 on the season, including 4-4 in the CC.
 
Hopkins clinches the number one seed in next week's Centennial Conference with the win. This is the 16th straight year that the Blue Jays are the top seed in the conference tournament.
 
Hopkins dropped just five games as the Blue Jays jumped out to a 3-0 lead. Zoe Hsieh and Bea Manjon took the first point of the match with an 8-1 win at number three over Ellie Brignati and Emma Ward. Sophia Kim and Jay Xiao then beat Andrea Brazyte and Avery Palandjian, 8-2, at one. Ashley Chang and Lia Melvin capped the doubles sweep when they won 8-2 at two over Sarah Guistwite and Gillian Rozenfeld.
 
The Blue Jays then swept the six singles' matches in straight sets to complete the shutout. Hsieh needed just 13 games to win at number six over Brignati and put JHU up 4-0. Kim then clinched the Hopkins' win with a 6-1, 6-1 win versus Guistwite at two. Xiao followed with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Palandjian at three.Samantha Wang picked up a 6-1, 6-3 victory at four over Rozenfeld. Mary Beth Hurley earned a 6-3, 6-2 win at one over Brazyte. Aubrey Zhou closed out the match when she beat Eden Levkov 6-2, 6-3 at five.
 
Hopkins wraps up the regular season on Saturday, April 27 versus Ursinus. The Blue Jays will take on the Bears at nearby Goucher College at 1:00 pm.
