Johns Hopkins Shuts Out Ursinus in Regular Season Finale

TOWSON, MD – Sixth-ranked Johns Hopkins shutout Ursinus, 9-0, on Sunday afternoon in both teams' regular season finale. The Blue Jays improve to 16-4 overall and 9-0 in the Centennial Conference. The Bears finish the season with a 9-10 record, including 1-8 in the CC.
 
Hopkins lost just nine games en route to completing its 17th consecutive undefeated conference slate. The Blue Jays have now won 164 straight regular season Centennial Conference matches.
 
Sydney Langer and Kamila Wong picked up the first point of the math with an 8-1 win over Allie Armour and Avery Samer at number one doubles. Catharina Ausfahl and Tanvikhaa Saravanan then shutout Claire Burke and Bella Vassalluzzo at three. Zoe Hsieh and Bea Manjon closed out doubles and put the Blue Jays up 3-0 with an 8-2 win over Morgan Coupe and Caroline Daly at two.
 
Jay Xiao needed just 12 games to push Hopkins' lead to 4-0 as she beat Burke at number two singles. Aubrey Zhou then secured the win, also in just 12 games, in her win over Kate Rubinkam at five. Samantha Wang then beat Daly 6-1, 6-0 at four. Ausfahl gave JHU a 7-0 lead when she defeated Fiona Finnerty 6-0, 6-1 at six. Langer followed with a 6-1, 6-1 win at three over Samer. Mary Beth Hurley wrapped up the shutout when she beat Armour 6-0, 6-2 at one.
 
Hopkins, the number one seed in the Centennial Conference Tournament, returns to action on Thursday, May 2 in the conference semifinals. JHU will learn its opponent after Tuesday's first round matches.
 
Notes: The win is the 50th for head coach Dan Pollock, now in his third season with the Blue Jays • He is now 90-26 overall • Wong earned her 50th career win as she is now 24-7 in singles and 26-19 in doubles
