BALTIMORE, MD – Fourteenth-ranked Johns Hopkins posted a pair of shutouts at Muhlenberg and versus Ursinus on Sunday to wrap up the regular season. The Blue Jays improve to 13-5 overall and 7-1 in the Centennial Conference and will be the two seed in this weekend's conference tournament.
Hopkins opened the day with a 9-0 win at Muhlenberg. The Blue Jays swept doubles and then did the same in singles, winning all six matches in straight sets.
Allen Gong and
Pranav Gadiraju beat Matt Miller and Owen Dyer, 8-5, at number one doubles.
Hanyu Liu and
Chakor Rajendra defeated William Rose and Harrison Neff, 8-2, at two.
George Jiang and
Arslan Orashev lost just one game in their win over Josh Simon and Gabriel Tamarkin at three.
In singles, Liu,
Daniel Ardila and
Marco Azar needed just 13 games each to win their singles' matches at number three, one and five, respectively. Gadiraju and Jiang each won 6-1, 6-1 at four and six singles and Rajendra grabbed a 6-3, 6-2 win at two.
JHU then returned to Baltimore to take on Ursinus in the regular season finale. Jiang and Rajendra earned the first point of the match with an 8-1 win at number three doubles. Gadiraju and Gong then won 8-5 at two over Darby Rogers and Ethan Yu. Ardila and Azar won by the same score at one to send Hopkins into singles with a 3-0 lead.
Ardila grabbed a 7-6 (6), 6-0 win over Lars Jespersen at number one. Rajendra beat Yu 6-1, 6-2 at two and Gadiraju won 6-2, 6-0 at three against Rogers. Azar beat Will Oberholtzer 6-0, 7-5 at number four and
Arslan Orashev also won 6-2, 6-0 at five. Jiang then earned a 7-5, 7-6 (6) win over Deniz Finkel at six.
Hopkins returns to action on Friday, May 3 in the conference semifinals against three seed Haverford.
