FAIRFAX, VA – The Johns Hopkins women's track & field team traveled south to compete in the Dalton Ebanks Invitational this weekend, with several athletes finishing on the podium across both days' events.
Friday's action began with the hammer throw in which
Erika Ezumba finished 14
th with a throw of 39.31 meters before
Abigail Lovelace secured the first top 10 finish of the weekend in the high jump, clearing 1.50 meters to take ninth.
The 800 kicked off Friday's track events, with
Mackenzie Setton serving as the first Blue Jay to cross the line in 11
th with a time of 2:17.74. The sophomore was joined in the top 20 by
Emma Kothari (20
th – 2:20.54), with
Lily Tremba (22
nd – 2:20.60) and
Lily Sheth (24
th – 2:20.88) coming in just behind in a field of over 80 competitors.
Day 1 concluded with the distance events in which Hopkins put together their best placements of the evening.
Sara Stephenson got the top 10 streak started in the steeplechase, taking home second after crossing the line in 11:08.11. The graduate student was trailed by
Callie Jones, who secured a 10
th-place finish with her time of 11:48.48.
It was more of the same in the 5000 where
Isabelle Nobili finished fourth with a personal-best time of 17:38.60, followed by
Adriana Catalano (6
th – 17:43.47) and
Katherine Forsberg, who just missed out on the top 10 after coming in 12
th with a time of 18:16.34.
The Invitational's second day began with the javelin in which
Phoebe Williams was the top-finishing Hopkins athlete with her throw of 31.66 meters. Wrapping up the throwing events was Ezumba in the discus, with the junior taking 12
th after clearing 34.80 meters before the field events came to a close in the triple jump in which
Victoria Kadiri took home second with her mark of 12.02 meters.
Back on the track it was the Blue Jays' 4x100 team of
Chloe Zhang,
Lauren Phillips,
Anna Zaeske and Kadiri combining for a second-place finish with their time of 48.55 before Zaeske stayed hot with a ninth-place finish in the 400, crossing the line in 59.26.
Kadiri earned another podium in the 100-meter hurdles with a third-place finish and time of 14.68 before coming in as the second Blue Jays to cross the line in the 100 — Phillips was the first with her time of 12.06 earning the junior third and the program record, with the sprints coming to a close in yet another relay Hopkins performed well in.
This time it was
Lianne Saussy,
Annie Huang, Phillips and Zaeske repeating as runners-up in the 4x400, crossing the line in 1:57.36 to trail only Duquesne in the event.
The meet ended with the 1500 in which
Eleni Alvarez was the highest-finishing Blue Jay. In a field of 79 runners including top Division I talent, the junior finished 25
th with a personal-best time of 4:48.27.
Isis Diaz also claimed a spot in the top 30 with her time of 4:50.49, with
Aisling Callahan's personal-best finish of 4:50.83 earning the sophomore 31
st.
Hopkins is back in action next weekend to compete at both the Stevenson Invitational and Bucknell Classic.
