Seven Blue Jays Earn IL/USA Lacrosse All-America Honors

Angelus, Degnon, Ierlan, Martin, Smith Named to Both Teams

BALTIMORE, MD – The Johns Hopkins men's lacrosse team had a total of seven players earn All-America honors from Inside Lacrosse and USA Lacrosse as both organizations recently announced their 2024 Division I Men's Lacrosse All-America Teams.  The Blue Jays placed six players on each of the two teams with five earning a spot on both teams and two earning recognition on one of the two.
 
Jacob Angelus (Gr. • A)
Honorable Mention Inside Lacrosse All-American
Honorable Mention USA Lacrosse All-American
• Leads the team in points (63) and assists (39)
• Second on the team in goals (24)
• 13th in the nation in assists per game (2.60) and 28th in points per game (4.20)
 
Matt Collison
Honorable Mention Inside Lacrosse All-American
• Ranks third on the team in goals (23), assists (9) and points (32)
• Has 12 multi-point games on the year
• Notched career-high five points in at Virginia and against Lehigh
 
Garrett Degnon (Gr. • A)
Honorable Mention Inside Lacrosse All-American
Third Team USA Lacrosse All-American
• Leads the team in goals (44) and ranks second in points (49)
• Has a school-record 45-game goal-scoring streak, the third-longest active streak in the nation
• Ranks fifth in the nation in shooting percentage (.379) among players who have taken at least 100 shots
 
Chayse Ierlan (Gr. • G)
Honorable Mention Inside Lacrosse All-American

• Sports a 9.50 goals against average and a .563 save percentage
• Ranks seventh in the nation in goals against average and eighth in save percentage
• Anchor of a unit that ranks seventh in the nation in scoring defense (9.53)
 
Brett Martin (Sr. • SSDM)
Third Team Inside Lacrosse All-American
Honorable Mention USA Lacrosse All-American
• Has two assists, 15 ground balls and nine caused turnovers on the year
• Ranks sixth on the team in caused turnovers
• Key member of a unit that ranks seventh in the nation in scoring defense (9.53)
 
Scott Smith (Sr. • D)
First Team Inside Lacrosse All-American
Second Team USA Lacrosse All-American
• Has two goals, 52 ground balls and 14 caused turnovers
• Ranks second on the team in ground balls and third in caused turnovers
• Leader of a unit that ranks seventh in the nation in scoring defense (9.53)
 
Beaudan Szuluk
Honorable Mention USA Lacrosse All-American
• Counts 31 ground balls and 22 caused turnovers to his credit
• Leads the team in caused turnovers and tied for fifth in ground balls
• 22 caused turnovers is the third-best single-season total in school history
• Key member of a unit that ranks seventh in the nation in scoring defense (9.53)
 
Johns Hopkins (11-4) is currently ranked third in the nation and topped Lehigh, 13-10, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday.  The third-seeded Blue Jays will take on fifth-ranked and sixth-seeded Virginia (11-5) in the NCAA Quarterfinals on Sunday, May 19 at Towson University (2:30 pm / ESPNU).
