BALTIMORE, MD – Host and third-ranked Salisbury rode a pair of first-half goals to a 2-0 win over second-ranked Johns Hopkins Wednesday evening in non-conference action. The Blue Jays fall to 4-1 on the season while the Sea Gulls improve to 5-0.
Salisbury took the early lead on a McKenna Horner goal just 9:37 into the game. Marli McDorman hit a long ball into the Hopkins' circle from the right side. The pass slipped through to Horner on the backside and she one-timed the ball into the middle of the cage.
The Sea Gulls doubled their lead late in the second quarter as they took advantage of a penalty corner. Madelyn Reed inserted the corner to McDorman at the top of the circle. She took one touch to settle the ball and then hit a low, hard shot into the back of the cage. That would do it for the scoring as the Sea Gulls grabbed the shutout.
Sophomore
Aubrey Kilgore finished with a career-best five saves and senior
Liz Falterer added a defensive save. Abbey McIlvain tallied two saves in the win for Salisbury.
Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, September 14 as the Blue Jays host 14
th-ranked TCNJ in the
Kenzie Opdyke Youth Day. The game is scheduled for a 1:00 pm start at Homewood Field.
