Johns Hopkins Shuts Out #10 Rowan, 3-0

BALTIMORE, MD – Host and second-ranked Johns Hopkins scored twice in a 69-second span in the second quarter to take control of the game en route to a 3-0 win over 10th-ranked Rowan Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays improve to 4-0 on the season while the Profs slip to 1-2.

Off a Blue Jay corner, senior Sophie Gomez slipped a pass to graduate student Lila Slattery at the top of the circle. She took on touch to settle the ball and then ripped a low, hard shot to the back post at the 22:29-mark. Just over a minute later, junior Megan Chang hit senior Emily Amsden with a great outlet pass, who dribbled 20 yards, split a trio of defenders and then backhanded a shot inside the left post to make it 2-0.

Hopkins pushed its lead to three early in the third quarter as the Blue Jays cashed in on another corner. Slattery took a pass from senior Jenna Halpin and passed to sophomore Caeli Robinson. She collected the ball and blasted a shot under the pads of Mariah Juiliano at 32:32.

Rowan had an 11-9 advantage in shots and a 10-9 edge in corners. Sophomore Aubrey Kilgore finished with four saves and got a defensive save from senior Liz Falterer. Freshman Jessica Lapidus played 15 minutes without having to make a save. Juiliano made four saves for the Profs and Allie Palumbo added a defensive save.

Hopkins returns to action on Wednesday, September 11 at fourth-ranked Salisbury. The non-conference contest is scheduled for a 6:00 pm start.
