CHESTERTOWN, MD –
John Windley scored a game and career-high 28 points to lead Johns Hopkins to a 77-55 win at Washington College Wednesday night. The Blue Jays improve to 7-6 overall and 2-0 in the Centennial Conference. The Shoremen fall to 5-9 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
Holding an early 5-4 lead, a Windley triple sparked a 16-2 Blue Jay run that spanned more than six minutes. JHU went 7-of-12 from the field during that stretch, which was fueled by seven points from Windley, and capped off with a
Charlie Jackson dunk at 10:44.
Washington College answered with an 8-2 spurt, thanks in part to a four-point effort from Ethan Schwantes, to pull within nine with 7:00 to play. Hopkins came right back with 12 unanswered points, over a three-minute stretch, to push out to a 35-14 lead.
Ryan Lang drained a three-pointer at the 2:23-mark to ignite a 16-4 Shoremen run that bridged halftime and saw the lead cut to nine. WC got six points from Lang and four from Nicho Simes as the team went 6-of-7 from the field. Windley got the Blue Jays going in the second half with back-to-back three-pointers that ignited an 11-2 spurt that put Hopkins up 50-32 with 14:56 to play.
The Shoremen weren't going away however, as they outscored the Jays 13-6 over a span of 3:13 to trim the deficit to 11. It was all Hopkins for the final 11 minutes as the lead grew to as much as 24 and WC got no closer than 15.
Windley's 28 points came in just 27 minutes, while he also handed out six assists and grabbed five rebounds. He moved into a tie for 15
th in program history with 1,066 career points. Johansson finished with 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Jackson added eight points and five boards. Schwantes led the Shoremen with 15 points and seven rebounds. Nolan Waldon chipped in 13 points to go with three assists.
Hopkins returns home to take on Franklin & Marshall on Saturday, January 18. Tip-off for the Centennial Conference contest is slated for 3:00 pm.
