WILLIAMSTOWN, MA – Second-ranked Johns Hopkins scored the game's first two goals and went on to beat host and 15
th-ranked Williams, 2-1, Friday in non-conference action. The Blue Jays win their 12
th straight game as they improve to 13-1 overall, while the Ephs fall to 6-6.
Megan Chang put the Blue Jays on the board just 3:41 into the second quarter with her team-leading seventh goal of the season. She intercepted a Williams' pass deep in their end and beat a pair of defenders before hitting a reverse from 14 yards out.
Hopkins doubled its lead five minutes into the third quarter off its fourth penalty corner of the game.
Jenna Halpin received the insert and centered the ball to
Caeli Robinson, who ripped a low shot from the top of the circle.
Deedee Gola tipped the ball around Ephs' goalie Ellie Smith to put the Jays up 2-0.
Williams cut the deficit in half with just over five minutes remaining in the third quarter.
Aubrey Kilgore made a save on a Pilar Torres shot off an Ephs' corner, but Kiki Higgins was able to poke home the rebound to make it 2-1. That's as close as Williams could get over the final 20 minutes as Hopkins held onto its 2-1 lead.
Kilgore finished with 13 saves in three quarters, her second double-digit save performance this season.
Jessica Lapidus played the second quarter and made two saves without allowing a goal. Smith totaled seven saves in the loss for the Ephs. Williams finished with a 24-15 advantage in shots and a 7-6 edge in corners.
Hopkins returns to action on Wednesday, October 22 as the Blue Jays host the Washington College Shorewomen. The Centennial Conference contest is scheduled for a 4:00 pm start at Homewood Field.
