Johns Hopkins to Host Opening Weekend of NCAA Tournament

Blue Jays Selected to Host for 12th Time Since 2008

BALTIMORE, MD – For the 12th time in program history and the first time since 2019, the Johns Hopkins women's soccer team has been selected as the host of the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament.  The Centennial Conference-Champion Blue Jays are one of 16 opening-weekend hosts as the 2025 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament bracket was announced on Monday morning.  Each of the 16 hosts will welcome three teams to their campus for the first two rounds with two games on Saturday, November 15 and one game on Sunday, November 16

Johns Hopkins (15-4-1) will host St. John Fisher (13-4-2) in the first round with Virginia Wesleyan (15-3-3) playing Stevens (11-3-6) in the other first round game at Homewood Field.  The winners of Saturday's first round games will meet in the second round on Sunday.  Johns Hopkins and St. John Fisher will be meeting for just the second time; the Blue Jays topped the Cardinals, 3-0, on August 30, 2014.

Game times and ticket information will be available on the official website of Johns Hopkins athletics (HopkinsSports.com) later today.

Johns Hopkins is making its 23rd appearance in the NCAA Tournament, including its 20th consecutive dating back to 2005.  The Blue Jays earned an automatic bid to the tournament by topping Swarthmore, 2-1, in the Centennial Conference Championship game.  Johns Hopkins is 41-20-3 all-time in the tournament with one national championship to its credit (2022). The Blue Jays advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals in 2024 and had moved through the opening weekend 13 times in their previous 22 appearances in the tournament.

St. John Fisher also earned an automatic bid to the tournament as the Cardinals topped Brockport in overtime (1-0) in the Empire 8 title game to clinch a spot on the field of 64.  The Empire 8 title came on the strength of an overtime strike from junior Francesca Logrippo, whose golden goal not only landed the first Empire 8 title in program history, it secured the first NCAA Tournament appearance in program history as well.

Virginia Wesleyan grabbed an at-large bid to the tournament after the Marlins fell to Washington & Lee on penalty kicks in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference title game.  The Marlins are no strangers to the NCAA Tournament or Johns Hopkins as this is the 16th time they have appeared in the tournament with runs to the NCAA Semifinals in 2006 and 2022 highlighting their tournament history.  Virginia Wesleyan and Johns Hopkins have met four times in the NCAA Tournament and five times overall; the all-time series between the Blue Jays and Marlins is tied 2-2-1.

Stevens grabbed an automatic bid to the tournament with a 3-0 win over Misericordia in the MAC Freedom title game. The Ducks snapped the Cougars' 46-match MAC Freedom winning streak with the decisive victory, which locked up a bid to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2021 for Stevens.  The Ducks are making their 14th overall appearance in the tournament with all 14 coming since 2002.  Johns Hopkins and Stevens have meet four time with the Ducks holding a 2-1-1 series advantage, including a 1-0-1 mark in the NCAA Tournament.
