COLLEGEVILLE, MN – Johns Hopkins quarterback
Bay Harvey was one of 15 Division III football players announced as a semifinalist for the 2025 Gagliardi Trophy presented by Stearns Bank on Friday afternoon.
Â
The Gagliardi Trophy, given annually since 1993, is awarded to the most outstanding NCAA Division III football player and recognizes excellence in athletics, academics and community service. The award is named after John Gagliardi, Saint John's legendary Hall of Fame head football coach who passed away at the age of 91 in 2018. Gagliardi retired in 2012 with 489 career victories, the most in college football history.
Â
A First Team All-Centennial selection this season, Harvey has guided the Blue Jays to a 10-1 record thus far with a 34-14 victory last week against Springfield in the second round of the NCAA Playoffs. Johns Hopkins will host Salisbury tomorrow, December 6, in the third round of the tournament with a trip to the NCAA Quarterfinals at stake.
Â
This season, Harvey is 191-of-272 (.702) for 2,638 yards with 26 touchdowns against just four interceptions and he ranks second on the team in rushing with 488 yards and eight touchdowns. He also ranks eighth in the nation in pass efficiency (180.3) and ninth in completion percentage (.702).
Â
Harvey recently broke the Johns Hopkins record for rushing touchdowns by a quarterback as his two scores against Springfield pushed his career total to 22. He enters Saturday's game against Salisbury having accounted for 96 career touchdowns (74 passing / 22 rushing) and he is tied for second in school history in career touchdown passes (74) and ranks third in career passing yards (7,156) and total offense (8,504).
Â
Off the field, Harvey graduated with a 3.73 cumulative grade point average last December with a degree in economics and a minor in applied math and statistics. He is currently enrolled as a graduate student at the Carey School of Business at Johns Hopkins while also working part-time at Constellation Energy.
Â
The Gagliardi Trophy national-selection committee is comprised of 18 Division III coaches (three from each NCAA Region), six Division III administrators (one from each region), 12 regional notable voters (two from each region) and six national voters with Division III backgrounds. A fan vote, which runs until Dec. 15, will be live soon on D3football.com. No J-Club members vote as part of the national-selection committee.
The Gagliardi Trophy finalists will be announced during a live show at 4 p.m. ET Thursday, Dec. 18, on D3football.com. Host Pat Coleman will profile the finalists during the program. The 2025 Gagliardi Trophy winner will be revealed on D3football.com during the week of the NCAA Division III football national championship game. In the lead up to the announcement of the 2025 Gagliardi Trophy winner, D3football.com will provide updates on specific dates and times of the announcement.
