LEXINGTON, VA – Trinity (TX) won four of six singles matches to beat seventh-ranked Johns Hopkins in the Blue Jays' spring opener Sunday. The Blue Jays are now 2-1 on the season while the Tigers improve to 6-1.
Hopkins swept the doubles' matches to take the first point of the match.
Aubrey Zhou and
Jay Xiao didn't drop a game as they beat Olivia Kim and Ellie Hughes, 6-0, at number two.
Sahana Madala and
Sydney Langer then secured the doubles' point with a 6-3 win over Ruth Hill and Lauren Tin at number three.
Ava Li and
Kamila Wong completed the sweep when they beat Rosabella Andrade and Trinity Levy, 6-3, at number one.
Hill tied the match as she took the first singles' point with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Xiao at number one.
Sophia Kim answered with a 6-1, 7-5 win over Kim at number two to put the Blue Jays back up 2-1. Hughes knotted the match at two with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 win over Li at number three.
Lucy Nabedrick gave the Tigers their first lead when she came from behind to top
Sahana Sanjeev 1-6, 7-6 (6), 6-1 at number four. Wong answered with a 6-2, 6-2 win at number six over Andrade to tie the match at three. Levy rallied to beat Langer 1-6, 7-6 (5), 6-1 at five to clinch the win for Trinity (TX).
Hopkins returns to action on Friday, February 21 versus Towson. The match is scheduled for a 6:00 pm start at Coppermine Racquet & Fitness Club.
