BALTIMORE, MD – The Johns Hopkins women's tennis team beat Towson, 4-0, Friday night at the Coppermine Racquet & Fitness Club. The Blue Jays improve to 3-1 on the season while the Tigers fall to 1-3.
Hopkins picked up wins at two and three doubles to grab an early 1-0 lead in the match.
Lia Melvin and
Jay Xiao beat Ashira Murray and Tamzin Pountney 6-1 at number two. Kiersten Tambe and Chandre Boshoff then won 6-2 over
Ava Li and
Kamila Wong at number one to set up a winner-take-all at number three.
Sydney Langer and
Sahana Madala grabbed the win and the doubles' point as they beat Gaia Montecchi and Sania Suchinsky.
Sahana Sanjeev gave Hopkins a 2-0 lead in the match as she took a quick 6-2, 6-3 win over Chloe Courtnage at number six singles. Xiao then beat Tambe 6-4, 6-2 at number to push the Blue Jays' lead to three. Madala then clinched the win as she rallied for a 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (7) win over Murray at four.
The win is the second straight for the Blue Jays over the Tigers and kicks off a stretch of three matches in three days. Hopkins is back in action on Saturday, February 22 at Franklin & Marshall.
