LEXINGTON, VA – Host and 27th-ranked Washington & Lee slipped past 14
th-ranked Johns Hopkins, 4-3, on Friday afternoon. The Blue Jays fall to 1-1 on the season while the Generals improve to 6-0.
Washington & Lee swept the doubles' matches to take the 1-0 lead heading into singles. Evan Erb and Will Kistler won 6-2 over
Daniel Ardila and
Dylan Blenkiron at number one. Ryan Good and James Kurani beat
Marco Azar and
Brian Yi, 6-3, at number two. And at three, Eli Hirshberg and Heys Parker defeated
Chakor Rajendra and
Zahari Stoimenov, 6-4.
In singles, the Blue and Generals split the matches and the home team held on for the win. Erb won 6-2, 7-6 (4) at one over Rajendra. Kurani won a tight 6-4, 6-4 match at number two over Ardila.
Hanyu Liu grabbed a win for the Blue Jays as he beat Kistler 6-2, 7-5 at three. Blenkiron needed little time to beat Hirshberg 6-1, 6-1 at number four. Parker won a close 6-4, 6-4 match at five over Li and
Mikundh Boopathi rallied to beat Sanjheev Rao 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (7) at six.
Hopkins is right back on the court on Saturday, March 1 as the Blue Jays take on the top-ranked Chicago Maroons. The match is slated for a 1:00 pm start in Lexington.
