Box Score LEXINGTON, VA – Top-ranked Chicago held off an upset bid from 14
th-ranked Johns Hopkins Saturday afternoon at Washington & Lee. The Blue Jays slip to 1-2 while the Maroons improve to 9-1.
Chicago swept the doubles' matches to take a 1-0 lead heading into singles. Andrei Leonov and Pat Otero took the first match with a 6-4 win over
Daniel Ardila and
Dylan Blenkiron at number one. Alexander Ekstrand and Michael Choi then secured the doubles' point with a 6-4 win at three over
Chakor Rajendra and
Zahari Stoimenov. The Maroons completed the sweep when Alexander Ekstrand and Michael Choi won a close 7-6 (4) match versus
Marco Azar and
Brian Yi at number two.
Ekstrand put Chicago up 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-1 win over
Hanyu Liu at number three singles. Ardila cut the Maroons' lead in half when he beat Derek Hsieh 6-1, 0-6, 6-4 at two. Emil Grantcharov then defeated Rajendra 6-4, 6-2 at one to put Chicago up 3-1.
Choi clinched the win at number four with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 defeat of Blenkiron. Stoimenov answered with a 6-1, 0-6, 6-4 win at five over Ajer Sher. Azar then closed out the match with a 6-3, 6-1 win at six over Matthew Liew.
Hopkins returns to action on Sunday, March 16 at Chapman.
