Box Score ROCKY MOUNT, NC – Eleventh-ranked Emory topped Johns Hopkins, 4-1, in the NCAA Sweet 16 Sunday afternoon. The sixth-ranked Blue Jays end the season with a 16-7 record while the Eagles improve to 14-10.
Emory earned wins at one and three doubles to take a 1-0 lead into singles. Ruilin Feng and Ajay Kartik won 6-2 over
Allen Gong and
Chakor Rajendra at one. Dean Kamenev and Joshua Lia then clinched the point with a tight 7-5 win over
Dylan Blenkiron and
Brian Yi.
Kartik pushed the Eagles' lead to two when he won a close 6-4, 6-4 match over
Jason Li at four singles.
Mukundh Boopathi answered with a 6-4, 6-3 win at five over Matthew Johnstone to make it a 2-1 match. Daniel Kim pushed Emory's lead back to two when he won another tight match 7-6, 7-5 over Rajendra at three. Kamenev then took a three-setter over Blenkiron at two to clinch the win for the Eagles.
Gong and Rajendra's seasons will continue at the NCAA Singles & Doubles Championships on May 23 in Chattanooga, TN.
