BALTIMORE, MD – Visiting Morgan State topped Johns Hopkins, 4-3, on Friday afternoon at the JHU Tennis Courts. The Blue Jays fall to 7-4 on the season while the Bears improve to 3-6.
Morgan State won at number two and three doubles to grab the first point of the match. Jula Jeffrey and Tyler Williams won 6-0 over
Catharina Ausfahl and
Zoe Hsieh at three for the match's first win.
Sydney Langer and
Sahana Madala answered with a 6-2 win at number one over Lauryn Hall and Hannah Smith. The Bears' Aleksandra Evdokimova and Marta Serra Carles then beat
Lia Melvin and
Jay Xiao in a tight one, 6-4, at number two to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
Langer opened singles play with a win at number two to tie the match at 1-1. She took the first set, 6-2, before Evdokimova retired. Roua Limem put Morgan State back on top when she won 6-3, 6-1 over Hsieh at six. Melvin tied the match for the second time with a 6-4, 6-2 win at four over Jeffrey.
Hall gave the Bears a 3-2 lead with a 6-3, 6-3 win at number one over Xiao. Williams then clinched the win as she beat
Aubrey Zhou 6-3, 6-4 at five.
Sahana Sanjeev rallied to beat Carles 1-6, 6-4, 6-2 at number three to close out the match.
Hopkins returns to action on Sunday, March 16 as the Blue Jays take on Carnegie Mellon in Fredericksburg, VA.
