Box Score FREDERICKSBURG, VA – Johns Hopkins fell to 13
th-ranked Carnegie Mellon, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon in a neutral site match at Mary Washington. The Blue Jays slip to 7-5 on the season while the Tartans remain unbeaten at 15-0.
Carnegie Mellon grabbed the doubles' point with wins at numbers one and three. Zoe Angell and Anna Chow took the first win as they beat
Sydney Langer and
Sahana Madala, 6-0, at one. Hopkins answered with a 6-1 win by
Lia Melvin and
Jay Xiao at number two. Anika Joshi and Shelly Zinchenko closed out doubles with a 6-3 win over
Aubrey Zhou and
Sahana Sanjeev to go up 1-0.
Zinchenko pushed the Tartans lead to 2-0 when she beat Xiao 6-4, 6-2 at number one singles. Madala then grabbed a point for the Blue Jays with a 6-4, 7-6 win at five over Victoria Gazda. Langer tied the match when she beat Sarah Yan 6-1, 2-6, 6-1 at number two.
Ancele Dolensek pushed Carnegie Mellon back on top with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 win over Melvin at number three. Divya Venkatarama then won at four over Sanjeev, 1-6, 7-5, 6-4, to clinch the win. Manuela Van Cotthem closed out the match with a 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 win over Zhou at number six.
Hopkins returns to action on Thursday, March 20 versus Wesleyan.
