ORANGE, CA – Johns Hopkins opened its West Coast trip with a 6-1 win over host and 32
nd-ranked Chapman Sunday afternoon. The Blue Jays even their record at 2-2 while the Panthers slip to 1-3.
The Blue Jays swept doubles to take a 1-0 lead into singles' play.
Daniel Ardila and
Dylan Blenkiron won a close 6-4 match at number one over Caleb Wilkins and Ben Jorgenson.
Marco Azar and
Mukundh Boopathi won by the same score versus Aram Izmirian and Andy Hess at three.
Allen Gong and
Chakor Rajendra earned a 7-6 (5) win over Ian Jordan and Lachlan Dickinson at number two.
Hopkins took five of the six singles' matches, including three sweeps, to wrap up the win. Blenkiron won 6-2, 6-4 at number three singles over Jorgenson.
Zahari Stoimenov grabbed a 6-4, 6-1 win over Adrian D'Aoust at four. Gong also won in straight sets, beating Matt Dewey 6-4, 6-2 at six.
Hanyu Liu rallied for a 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (5) win over Izmirian at number two. Azar held off a come-back bid by Mac Caldwell, winning 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 at five. Wilkins picked up the lone win for the Panthers with a closer 7-5, 7-5 decision at one over Rajendra.
Hopkins returns to action on Tuesday, March 18 as the Blue Jays take on the Bowdoin Bears at 9:00 am PT.
