CLAREMONT, CA – Johns Hopkins fell to third-ranked Tufts, 6-1, on Wednesday afternoon in the Blue Jays' final match before the Stag-Hen Invitational. The Blue Jays fall to 2-4 on the season while the Jumbos improve to 8-1.
Tufts swept the doubles matches to take an early 1-0 lead in the match. Vuk Vuksanovic and Javier Gonzalez took the first win of the match with a 6-2 win over
Daniel Ardila and
Dylan Blenkiron at number one. Lachie MacIntosh and Derin Acaroglu then secured the doubles' point with a 6-3 win over
Allen Gong and
Chakor Rajendra at two. Nico Tremblay and Sacha Maes then wrapped up the sweep when they beat
Marco Azar and
Mukundh Boopathi, 6-4, at three.
Vuksanovic pushed the Jumbos' lead to 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Ardila at number one singles. Stavros Mastrogamvrakis then won 6-2, 6-2 over Gong at five. Alex Ganchev clinched the win with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Azar at six. Gonzalez followed with a 6-1, 6-1 win at number two over Rajendra to make it 5-0. Acaroglu held off a comeback from Blenkiron to win 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (13) at three.
Zahari Stoimenov got the Blue Jays on the board with a 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (7) win over Andrej Djokic at four.
Hopkins returns to action on Friday, March 21 versus 11
th-ranked Trinity (TX) at the Stag-Hen Invitational.
