Box Score CLAREMONT, CA – Johns Hopkins opened the Stag-Hen Invitational with a 5-2 win over 11
th-ranked Trinity (TX) on Friday afternoon. The Blue Jays improve to 3-4 on the season while the Tigers fall to 8-6.
Hopkins grabbed wins at numbers two and three doubles to take the doubles' point.
Marco Azar and
Mukundh Boopathi earned the first win of the match, beating Conor Kaczmarczyk and Ethan Flores, 6-2, at three.
Allen Gong and
Chakor Rajendra then secured the doubles' point with a 6-3 win over Eric Liao and Aashish Dhanani at number two. The Tigers' Rocco Mendez and Kishan Kersten prevented the sweep with a 6-3 win over
Daniel Ardila and
Dylan Blenkiron at one.
Jared Perry tied the match at 1-1 when he beat Ardila 7-5, 6-1 at number one singles. Rajendra answered with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-0 win over Ryan Warren at two, to put the Blue Jays up 2-1. Azar pushed the lead to 3-1 when he won 6-3, 7-6 (2) over Liao at number six.
Mendez cut JHU's lead back to one with a 6-0, 7-5 win over Blenkiron at number three. Gong then clinched the win for Hopkins when he won 7-5, 6-4 at five over Dhanani.
Zahari Stoimenov closed out the win with a 7-5, 4-6, 6-2 win over Kersten at four.
Azar earned his 100
th career win, becoming the second Blue Jay this season to reach the century mark in total wins.
