GREENSBORO, NC – Johns Hopkins turned in a pair of individual All-America swims, in addition to a relay All-America finish on day two of the NCAA Championships Thursday. The Blue Jays sit in 16
th place with 42 points.
Matthew Hartshorn swam to a second-place finish in the consolation final, 10
th overall, in the 400 IM. He knocked more than six-tenths of a second off his prelim time to finish in 3:53.79. His time is the third fastest in program history and it is his second All-America honor in the 400 IM in his career.
Avery Clapp then finished in sixth place in the championship final of the 100 Fly. He clocked in at 47.31 in the final, the fourth fastest time in school history. His prelim time of 41.37 is the fifth fastest time in JHU history. He earns All-America honors in the 100 Fly for the third straight year, including back-to-back first team honors.
Hopkins wrapped up the day with a seventh-place finish in the consolation final, 15
th overall, in the 200 Free Relay.
Jonathan Wang, Clapp,
Jay Heymann and
Christian Mayr combined for a swim of 1:21.70. Clapp now counts 15 All-America honors in his career, the most by any active Blue Jay. Heymann earns his sixth All-America honor, while Wang earns his second. Mayr garners All-America honors for the first time.
The NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships continue on Friday with the prelim of the 200 Medley Relay.
