CLAREMONT, CA – Fourth-ranked Denison defeated 19
th-ranked Johns Hopkins, 4-1, on Saturday in the third-place match of the Stag-Hen Invitational. The Blue Jays fall to 3-6 on the season while the Big Red improve to 9-2.
Denison earned wins at numbers one and two doubles to take an early 1-0 lead. Kael Shah and Ethan Green won 6-0 over
Daniel Ardila and
Dylan Blenkiron at one. Jacob Patterson and Colin Gramley then beat
Allen Gong and
Chakor Rajendra, 6-4, at two to secure the doubles' point.
Shah earned a 6-2, 6-0 win over Rajendra at number one singles. Andreas Chapides then beat
Zahari Stomineov 6-3, 6-4 at four.
Mukundh Boopathi answered with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Mason Colin at number six. Patterson clinched the win as held off a Blenkiron rally at three. Patterson won the first set 6-0 but Blenkiron responded with a 6-1 win in the second. Patterson then secured the win with a 7-6 win in the third set.
Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, March 29 with split squad matches. JHU will host Mount St. Mary's and will also travel to Salisbury.
