BALTIMORE, MD – The Johns Hopkins men's fencing team placed four Blue Jays on the United States Fencing Coaches Association (USFCA) All-America teams it was announced.
Alan Zheng and
Matthew Dao were named to the Division III First Team while
Neil Pandey and
Alex Pan were named to the Second Team.
The USFCA recognizes National Collegiate All-Americans for outstanding performances at NCAA Championships. The top-12 finishers in each event, regardless of Division, are recognized based on their final placement at the competition. In addition, the USFCA recognizes the top Division III fencers in the country with Division III All-American awards. The recipients of these awards are determined by an evaluation of their regular season performance and postseason performance, including both NCAA Regionals and NCAA Championships.
Zheng earns All-America honors for the fourth time in his career, the first in program history to do so. He also earns First Team honors for the third straight season. Zheng went 80-41 this season and finished his career with a 342-190 record. He placed 16
th at the NCAA Championships and became Hopkins' all-time leader in Foil wins.
Dao garners All-America honors for the third time and First Team accolades for the second straight year. He finished the season with a 60-56 record and is 228-143 through three seasons. Dao currently ranks ninth in program history with his 228 career Epee wins.
Pandey led the Blue Jay Sabre squad with 79 wins, going 79-30 on the season. His 79 wins rank second most in program history by a freshman in the Sabre. He finished in a tie for third at the MACFA Championships and placed 18
th at the NCAA Regional. Pan finished his freshman campaign with a 39-22 record and took 17
th place at the NCAA Regional Championship.
