MADISON, NJ – Senior
Alan Zheng led the Johns Hopkins men's fencing team with a seventh-place finish at the 2025 NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional Saturday. In total, five Blue Jays placed in the top-20 at the regional championship.
Zheng finished the day with an 11-10 record to finish a career-best seventh in the Foil. It is the highest finish by a Blue Jay in the Foil, since Ben Dorfman placed sixth in 2008. Zheng now boasts 331 wins in his career, six wins shy of tying Kevin Little's JHU Foil record of 337.
Junior
Spencer Grossman Smisek finished in a tie for 23
rd with five wins. He now ranks eighth in JHU history with 243 career Foil wins.
Alastair Thompson finished in a tie for 27
th and finishes his freshman campaign with 52 wins. Freshman
Omar Reyes placed 34
th and ends the season with 60 wins, second on the Foil squad behind Zheng's 69 wins.
Junior
Matthew Dao led the Blue Jays in the Epee with a career-best 10
th place finish. He earned 14 wins on the day and now boasts 228 wins in his career. Sophomore
Ethan Insler and junior
Jorge Gana, finished in 28
th and 29
th respectively, while sophomore
Ayan Bhatnagar placed 46
th. Insler picked up five wins to move into the top-25 in program history with 134 career wins.
Freshman
Alex Pan led the Sabre squad with a 17
th-place finish. He won seven bouts on the day and now has 39 on the season. Freshman
Neil Pandey took 18
th place and is now alone in second place for Sabre wins by a freshman with 79. Sophomore
Leonid Kotov placed 20
th with five wins and junior
Alex Jeffords finished in a tie for 25
th with four wins.
The 2025 NCAA Championship selections are scheduled to be announced on Tuesday, March 11.
