NEWARK, DE – Delaware beat visiting Johns Hopkin, 6-1, on Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays falls to 9-7 overall while the Blue Hens improve to 16-7.
Delaware took the doubles' point to go up 1-0 early before winning five of the six singles' matches. Maryia Hrynashka and Emma Akselrod picked up the first win with a 6-2 victory over
Ava Li and
Sahana Sanjeev at number three. Alina Vasilenko and Cornelia Kack secured the point with a 6-3 win over
Sydney Langer and
Sahana Madala at two.
Vasilenko pushed the Hens' lead to 2-0 when she won 6-1, 6-2 over
Jay Xiao at number two singles. Hrynashka followed with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Langer at one. Nayva Vadlamudi then beat Sanjeev 6-3, 6-3 at three to clinch the win for Delaware.
Greta Schieroni then rallied to beat
Lia Melvin 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (3) at number four to put the Blue Hens up 5-0. With the match decided, Kack took the win at five, with a 6-2 win over Li. Madala then picked up a point for the Blue Jays with a 6-3 win over Akselrod at six.
Hopkins returns to action on Friday, April 18 at Mary Washington. The match is scheduled for a 4:00 pm start.
