FREDERICKSBURG, VA – The Johns Hopkins women's tennis team took down host Mary Washington, 6-1, on Friday afternoon. The Blue Jays improve to 10-7 overall while the Eagles fall to 7-8.
Hopkins swept the doubles matches to take an early 1-0 lead in the match.
Sydney Langer and
Sahana Madala took the first win of the match as they beat Jacey Copeland and Evie Snyder, 6-2, at number three doubles.
Kamila Wong and
Ava Li then secured the doubles' point with a 6-3 win at two over Linda Dimitroff and Sophia Broomall.
Jay Xiao and
Lia Melvin completed the sweep when they beat Addison Felts and Natalie Kim, 6-4, at one.
Li pushed the Blue Jays' lead to 2-0 as she dropped just one game in her win over Broomall at number five singles. Wong turned the same trick at six in her win over Snyder to put Hopkins up 3-0. Langer then clinched the win with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Dimitroff at three.
Sophia Kim followed with a 6-3, 6-4 win at number two singles versus Kim and the Jays led 5-0.
Sahana Sanjeev followed with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Copeland at four. Felts picked up the Eagles' lone point with a 0-6, 7-6 (2), 1-0 (6) win over Xiao at number one.
Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, April 26 as the Blue Jays host Haverford. The match is scheduled for an 11:00 am start.
