Take Three - Blue Jays Top Stevens, Washington College, Goucher

Blue Jays Improve to 9-7 With Sunday Sweep

BALTIMORE, MD – In a rare three-match day, the 14th-ranked Johns Hopkins men's tennis team picked up three wins on Sunday as the Blue Jays topped visiting Stevens (6-1) and Washington College (5-2) and made the short trip to Goucher, where they topped the Gophers (7-0) to wrap up the day.  The three wins boost the Blue Jays' record to 9-7 and they've now won four straight and five of their last six.

#14 Johns Hopkins-6, #39 Stevens-1
Johns Hopkins opened the day with the 6-1 win over the Ducks.  The Blue Jays jumped to a quick 1-0 lead as they swept the three doubles matches.  Daniel Ardila and Dylan Blenkiron picked up a 6-0 win in the number one spot and Brian Yi and Pranav Gadiraju matched that with a shutout at three to fuel the sweep.

The Blue Jays won five of six single matches with straight-set wins from Blenkiron (6-0, 6-2), Hanyu Liu (6-3, 6-4), Allen Gong (7-6 (7-3), 6-1) and Mukundh Boopathi (6-1, 6-3) at first, fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively.

Chakor Rajendra scored a hard-fought three-set win at number two to pick up the Blue Jays' other win.  He topped Stevens' Samvid Andhare 5-7, 7-5, 1-0 (10-0) as he took control of the 10-point tie-breaking third set early and cruised to the victory.

#14 Johns Hopkins-5, #49 Washington College-2
As they had against the Ducks, the Blue Jays won all three doubles matches to grab the all-important doubles point.  Blenkiron and Ardila were forced into a tie-breaker at one as the Shoremen team of Sihoo Kim and Tichi Chialva pushed them to the brink before falling, 7-6 (7-3).  Gong and Rajendra picked up a 6-2 win at second and Yi and Gadiraju dropped just one game in wining 6-1.

The Blue Jays locked up the win by sweeping the second through fifth singles matches.  Rajendra didn't drop a game at two, while Yi scored a 6-0, 6-2 win at four.  Gong and Gadiraju also added straight-set wins, although Kohl Perkins pushed Gadiraju in two tight sets (7-6 (7-4), 6-4).

#14 Johns Hopkins-7, Goucher-0
Johns Hopkins capped the day with the road shutout of the Gophers.  The Blue Jays dropped just eight games in sweeping the doubles and picked up straight-set wins in all six singles spots while dropping a total of just 16 games in those six victories.

Marco Azar and Boopathi won 6-2 at first doubles, while Zahari Stoimenov and Jason Li added a 6-3 win at second that was matched by Andy Zhu and Joshua Kim at number three.

In singles, it was Li working the quickest as he won 6-0, 6-0 at number three, while Jack Wexler was nearly as efficient at number six as he cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win.  Stoimenov and Zhu dropped just three games apiece in winning at first and fifth, respectively, while Boopathi (6-3, 6-1) and Joshua Kim (6-1, 6-3) closed out the shutout with straight-set wins of their own at second and fourth, respectively.

Johns Hopkins will return to action on Saturday, April 19 when the Blue Jays travel to Christopher Newport for a match against the 21st-ranked Captains.
