Adeniran Sets Hopkins Triple Jump Record

BALTIMORE, MD – The Johns Hopkins men's track and field team kicked off the final day of the Hopkins/Loyola Invitational on Saturday.
 
A trio of Blue Jays finished in the top-four in the triple jump, capped with a record-setting performance from Oluwademilade Adeniran. The sophomore broke the school record – held by Ethan Bartlett '19 – recording a personal-best 14.56-meter jump. The mark is not only a Hopkins record, it's also the eighth-farthest mark recorded nationally this season. Joining Adeniran was Ethan Oluwole, who placed second with the 41st-farthest mark nationally this year (13.85-meters), and Sebastian Tangelson in fourth (13.49-meters).
 
In the high jump, junior Ted Richards was the top collegiate finisher in a field of 12 as he marked at a personal-best 1.85-meters to grab his runner-up finish. Wech Ring was just behind in fourth place as he topped out at a season-best 1.80-meters.
 
In a field of 22 in the javelin throw, the Blue Jays grabbed two of the top four spots in the final standings. Senior Ian Raley marked at 48.51-meters to place second, while was just behind in fourth-place with a top toss of 47.66-meters.
 
Senior Ethan Oluwole placed second in the long jump with a personal-best 6.60-meter mark. Finishing just outside the top-10 was sophomore Carter Chui in 11th-place with a 6.02-meter jump.
 
In the pole vault, senior Peter Lim placed fifth with a season-best mark of 4.40-meters.
 
Junior Ryan Braga placed seventh in a field of 17 in the discus with a 37.62-meter throw on his third attempt.
 
In the shot put's field of 18, the Blue Jays grabbed two top-10 finishes courtesy of Ryan Braga (7th | 12.71-meter) and Leo Anderson (9th | 12.30-meter).
 
On the track, a trio of Blue Jays cracked the top seven in the 800-meter dash and Hopkins produced five of the top 10 in a field that included 50 entries – four of the five hit either a personal or season-best time. Junior Fisayo Omonije led the way with a fourth-place showing as he crossed in a personal-best time of 1:52.55 – the third-fastest time in Blue Jays history. He was followed closely by Evan Kelly (5th | 1:53.60) and Aidan Deffner (7th | 1:54.24 | 10th-fastest in program history). Freshman Ani Krishnan (9th | 1:54.86) and senior Zach Martin (10th | 1:56.22) also cracked the top 10. Deffner and Krishnan's times were personal bests, while Martin's was a season best.
 
The Blue Jays grabbed three of the top-five spots in the 3000-meter steeplechase, with senior Andrew Myers leading the way with a third-place finish (9:50.35). Juniors Vaughn Decker (4th | 9:53.98) and Lance Nicholls (5th | 9:54.20) rounded out the top-five.
 
Freshman Dan Spahr earned a top-five finish in the 5000-meter run as he placed fourth among 33 finishers with a time of 15:26.97; this was the first time Spahr has run the event.
 
In the 110-meter hurdles, sophomore Jack Maier crossed in a personal-best 15.80 to place fifth, while classmate Sebastian Tangleson was just behind as he clocked a personal-best 16.04 to place eighth in a field that included 23 entries.
 
Building off his effort in the 110-meter hurdles, Maier added a seventh-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles as he crossed in a season-best time of 58.11.
 
The Blue Jays are back in action Thursday, April 24, at the Penn Relays, with action scheduled to begin at 7:35 PM in the 3000m Steeplechase.
