FREDERICKSBURG, VA –Johns Hopkins fell to Emory in a top-15 match-up Saturday at the University of Mary Washington. The 10
th-ranked Eagles beat the 15
th-ranked Blue Jays, 5-2. Hopkins falls to 5-7 on the season while Emory improves to 9-4.
Hopkins took an early 1-0 lead in the match as the Blue Jays picked up wins at two doubles' wins to take the point.
Daniel Ardila and
Dylan Blenkiron won 7-5 over Dean Kamenev and Ajay Karti at number one. Christian Liew and Ruilin Feng took a 6-4 win at two over
Allen Gong and
Chakor Rajendra. The Blue Jays secured the doubles' point with a 6-4 win by
Marco Azar and
Mukundh Boopathi over Efe Comu and Alec Anghel at number three.
The Eagles responded by winning five of six singles matches to take the win over the Blue Jays. Three of the six singles matches were decided in three sets. Feng rallied for a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 win over Blenkiron at number one. Kamenev also came back to win 0-6, 6-2, 6-4 over Rajendra at two. Come won 6-4, 6-2 over
Zahari Stoimenov at number three.
Liew beat
Brian Yi 6-2, 6-3 at number four. Azar picked up the Blue Jays' only singles win with a 6-2, 2-6, 7-6 (3) win at five over Anghel. Kartik defeated Boopathi 6-1, 6-1 at number six.
Hopkins closes out the weekend versus NC Wesleyan in Fredericksburg on Sunday, April 6.
