BALTIMORE, MD – Tenth-ranked Johns Hopkins took down 31
st-ranked NC Wesleyan, 4-0, in the second round of the NCAA Tournament Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays improve to 15-7 and advance to the NCAA Sweet 16 for the third straight year and 15
th time overall. The Bishops finish their season with a 13-13 record.
Hopkins grabbed the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead into singles play.
Daniel Ardila and
Dylan Blenkiron earned the first win of the day when they beat Luca Knese and Albert Sitwell, 6-3, at number one doubles.
Allen Gong and
Chakor Rajendra then secured the doubles point with a 6-2 win at two versus Brody Brice and Logan Stoltz.
Marco Azar pushed the Blue Jays' lead to two when he beat Shori Nishoizoe 6-1, 6-4 at number six singles. Rajendra followed with a 6-2, 6-1 over Diego Segovia at one. Gong clinched the win at three when he beat Sitwell 6-2, 6-2.
Hopkins will take on seventh-ranked Middlebury on Sunday for a spot in the NCAA Quarterfinals. The match is scheduled for a 1:00 pm start at the JHU Tennis Courts.
