Kilrain Named to United States U20 Team

Rising Junior to Compete at World Championships in August

BALTIMORE, MD – Quintan Kilrain, a rising junior and two-year starter on the Johns Hopkins men's lacrosse team, was one of 22 players named today to the United States team that will compete at 2025 Under-20 Men's Lacrosse World Championships.  The 20-team championship event will take place from August 15-24 on Jeju Island, Korea.

Kilrain was one of five defensemen named to the team, which will be coached by Shawn Nadelen, himself a 2001 Johns Hopkins graduate and an All-American defenseman during his playing days at Homewood.

Kilrain played in all 30 games with 26 starts in his first two seasons at Johns Hopkins and counts two goals, three assists, 61 ground balls and 22 caused turnovers to his credit.  He had 28 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers during the 2025 season, when he started all 14 games on close defense.  Kilrain is majoring in political science and was named to the 2025 Academic All-Big Ten Team.

With his selection, Kilrain becomes the latest Blue Jay named to the United States' U20 Team since the event debuted in 1988.  Including Kilrain, 21 Johns Hopkins players have been named to the team with three other Blue Jays representing Team Canada at the championship.  From the first championship in 1988 through the 2016 event, the age designation for this event was U19.  For the 2022 event, which was twice postponed due to the COVID pandemic, the age grouping was raised to U21.  The age has now been permanently set at U20.

Kilrain and his teammates will open their schedule on August 16 with a pool play game against Canada and will also have pool play games against Australia and the Haudenosaunee. All four participants from Pool A will automatically advance to the quarterfinal round of the playoffs which begin on August 21. The gold medal game is scheduled for August 24.

The United States has won each of the previous nine World Lacrosse men's junior field championships, most recently in 2022 when it defeated Canada 12-10 in the championship game in Limerick, Ireland.
This is the first time this event has been held in Asia since 1996 when the U.S. U19 team defeated Australia 13-8 in the championship game in Tokyo.
