EWING, NJ – Sixth-ranked Johns Hopkins scored twice in three minutes in the second quarter to beat host and 19
th-ranked TCNJ Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays improve to 4-1 on the season and hand the Lions (4-1) their first loss of the season.
After a scoreless first quarter, it was TCNJ that struck first, scoring just 33 seconds into the second. Jadyn Huff hit a long ball into the circle from the right endline and Mackenzie Hart redirected it into the middle of the cage. Hopkins answered four minutes later when
Megan Chang sprung a quick counterattack.
Evie Hamm fired a shot at the top of the circle, but Lions' goalie Brigitte Racey had come out to challenge and got a pad on it. The ball came right back to Hamm and she blasted a low shot past Racey and into the cage.
The Blue Jays grabbed the lead as they capitalize on a penalty corner less than three minutes later.
Caeli Robinson passed the ball to Halpin on the left side of the circle and she one-timed the ball under a diving Racey at 22:13. That turned out to be all the scoring as the Blue Jay defense held the Lions without a shot for the final 43:38.
Aubrey Kilgore tallied two saves in 45 minutes of action while
Jessica Lapidus made one in one quarter for the Blue Jays. Racey notched seven for the Lions and Rachael Tetzlaff made a defensive save. Hopkins finished with a 12-6 edge in shots and a 10-5 advantage in corners.
Hopkins returns to action on Wednesday, September 17 at 14
th-ranked York. The non-conference contest is scheduled for a 7:00 pm start.
