Aubrey Zhou won Flight 4 and
Isabel He advanced to the finals of Flight 3 to lead the Johns Hopkins women's tennis team at the Bedford Cup this past weekend.
Sahana Sanjeev went 1-2 in Flight 1 of the singles draw. She opened with a 6-2, 6-4 loss to Vikotoria Lackova (VCU) in the round of 16. After her opponent withdrew in the quarterfinals of the consolation draw, she then faced Madison Lee (GWU). Lee won the first set 6-4 and was up 3-0 in the second when Sanjeev withdrew.
In Flight 2,
Sahana Madala advanced to the semifinals. She opened the tournament without losing a game versus Liza Tankimovich (LU). She did the same in the quarterfinals against Elena Prado (NSU). Madala's run ended in the semifinals in a 6-2, 6-3 loss to Julie Bousseau (WVU).
He kicked off her career with a trip to the finals of Flight 3. After a first-round bye, she picked up her first career win with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Brandy Alexis Babcock-Hannah (CSU). He then beat Devika Manu (GWU) 6-1, 6-2. In the finals, she fell to Amelie Brozova (VCU) 6-3, 6-3.
Zhou's first round opponent withdrew, and she followed that with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Ines Sabadie (NSU). In the semifinals, she prevailed in three sets over Audrey Yvana Mengue (DSU) 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (6). Zhou then wrapped up Flight 4 with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Tyler Williams (MSU).
In doubles Flight 1, Madala and
Claire Loftus grabbed a 6-2 win over Mia Matriccino and Jocelyn Assael (LU). The pair then fell to Lee and Karen Verduzco 6-1 in the quarterfinals. In Flight 2, He and Zhou advanced to the semifinals and then finished in third place. The duo opened with a 6-4 win over Irina Iurea and Kayla Kennedy (NSU). He and Zhou followed that with a 6-4 win over Marta Serra and Damla Arslan. The tight matches continued in the semis as the Blue Jay pair fell to Hannah Watkins and Maite Bou Safont (DSU) by the same 6-4 score. He and Zhou bounced back with a 6-3 win over Manu and Alexandra Lindqvist in the third-place match.
