TOWSON, MD – Johns Hopkins made the short trip to Towson this past weekend for Towson Hidden Duals. Hopkins competed against teams from Hampton, Coppin State, Georgetown, Mount St. Mary's and Towson.
 
Hopkins opened the weekend by winning four of five matches versus a combined team from Hampton and Coppin State. The Blue Jays won three of the four singles' matches and took the doubles' match. Sophia Kim won 6-4, 6-1 over Serena Bryan (Hampton). Ava Li lost just two games in her win over Abigail Perue (Coppin). Kamila Wong also won in straight sets, beating Johnson (Coppin) 6-1, 6-3. Hampton grabbed a win when Toffee Ghorab beat Sydney Langer 6-1, 7-5. And in doubles, Xiao and Lia Melvin beat Tanya Mdzi and Chelsea Chakanyuka (Hampton) 6-4, 6-1.
 
The Blue Jays then took on the Georgetown Hoyas on Saturday, with GU winning three of the four matches. Hopkins' win came in doubles as Wong and Li combined for a 6-1, 6-3 win over Ruhika Bhat and Natasha Kavarana. In singles, Langer fell to Julia Chu 6-1, 6-4. Xiao and Kim each lost tough three-setters to GU. Xiao lost 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (9) to Katie Garofolo-Ro. Kim fell 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 (11) to Molly Evans.
 
Hopkins bounced back by sweeping four matches against the host. Li won in straight sets over Tamzin Pountney 6-0, 7-6 (5). Xiao and Wong each rallied from a first set loss to win in three. Xiao beat Gaia Montecchi 5-7, 6-1, 1-0 (6) and Wong won 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (5). In doubles, Kim and Langer won 6-4, 6-3 over Sofia Anderson and Chandre Boshoff.
 
JHU closed out the weekend by winning three of five matches versus Mount St. Mary's. Xiao earned the lone singles' win for the Blue Jays, as they didn't drop a game versus Abigail Gregory. Melvin lost a close two setter (7-6, 6-4) to Venus Tang. Kim fell in a tough three-setter to Isabelle Pescatore 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (8). Hopkins took both doubles matches. Li and Wong beat Emma Perkins and Anya Rosenbach 6-2, 6-4. Langer and Sahana Sanjeev won Eirini Tsakiri and Kajaal Ramisetty 6-4, 6-0.
