Coward's Two Leads Johns Hopkins to 3-2 Win at #14 Rowan

GLASSBORO, NJ – Kaitlin Coward notched her first career two-goal game to lead Johns Hopkins to a 3-2 win at 14th-ranked Rowan Sunday afternoon. The Blue Jays improve to 2-1 on the season while handing the Profs their first loss of the season.

Hopkins got on the board first, capitalizing on a penalty corner late in the first quarter. Caeli Robinson dribbled up the right side of the circle before centering the ball to Coward, who redirected the ball past Mariah Juiliano at 12:04.

Coward pushed the Blue Jays' lead to two with just 98 seconds left in the second quarter. Grace Waldeck tipped a shot by Evie Hamm off a corner and Coward banged it in at the left post. Rowan cut the deficit in half midway through the third quarter when Kaylee Wenzel scored on a rebound off an Aubrey Kilgore save.

The Blue Jays answered less than two minutes later, getting their third goal off a penalty corner. Jenna Halpin took the corner insert and passed to Robinson on her right. She took one touch and then fired a rocket that ricocheted off the right post and it to stake Hopkins to a 3-1 lead.

Rowan got one back late and once again made it a one-goal game with 2:03 to go in the third. Off a corner, Peyton Ray hit a long ball from the left side of the circle that skipped through to Mia Foti on the back post and she tipped it in. That turned out to be all the scoring as the teams combined for just two shots in the fourth quarter.

Kilgore finished with six saves in three quarters of action while Jessica Lapidus made a pair in one quarter. Juiliano totaled 10 saves for the Profs in the loss.

Hopkins returns to action on Wednesday, September 10 as the Blue Jays host the third-ranked Salisbury Sea Gulls. The non-conference contest is slated for a 7:00 pm start at Homewood Field.
