PHILADELPHIA, PA – Johns Hopkins opened 2026 with a pair of wins at the Philadelphia Invitational Friday afternoon. JHU took down UC San Diego, 16-11, in round one and then beat Lafayette, 24-3, in the final round. The Blue Jays are now 12-3 on the season.
Hopkins grabbed 5-4 wins in both the Sabre and the Foil and claimed the Epee by a 6-3 score. In the Sabre,
Alex Chterental won two of his three bouts and
Alex Pan clinched the victory for the Blue Jays.
Josh Sima and
Yi Peng Sha won two bouts each, with Sha securing the win in the final Foil bout.
Ethan Insler went 3-0 and
Jorge Gana won twice to lead the Blue Jay Epee squad.
The Blue Jays then cruised to a win over the Leopards with 9-0 wins in the Sabre and Foil and a 6-3 win by the Epee squad. Pan,
Leonid Kotov and
Neil Pandey combined for all nine and Pandey earned this 100
th career win. Sabre wins. Sima, Sha and
Spencer Grossman Smisek did the same in the Foil. Gana won each of his three bouts and
Leo He won twice to pace the Epee squad.
Hopkins returns to action on Sunday, January 18 as the Blue Jays' host the JHU Invitational.
