Ezumba Sets School Record; Blue Jays First at the Cardinal Track & Field Classic

Hopkins collects 38 Top 10 Finishes; 8 Event Wins

LANDOVER, MD – The Johns Hopkins women's track and field team turned in an outstanding performance at the Cardinal Track and Field Classic on Saturday, hosted by Catholic University, compiling 38 top-10 finishes across 14 events to claim the team title. The Blue Jays amassed 196.5 points to finish well ahead of George Washington (88) and the University of the District of Columbia (73.5). The meet was highlighted by a school record from Erika Ezumba.
 
Ezumba starred in the field, rewriting the Hopkins record book in the weight throw with a personal-best mark of 17.60m (57-9), the third-best performance in Division III this season. Her throw earned a second-place finish and surpassed her previous school record (17.33m) by nearly 0.30 meters. She added an event win in the shot put, recording a personal-best 13.45m (44-1.5), the second-farthest mark in program history and the ninth-best mark nationally this season.
 
Phoebe Williams joined Ezumba in the shot put, posting the sixth-farthest mark in school history with a personal-best 12.23m (40-1.5). Her throw earned a third-place finish and ranks 47th in Division III this season. Williams also added a fourth-place showing in the weight throw (14.38m | 47-2.25) for her second top-10 finish of the day.
 
Kellen Ievers (10.64m | 34-11) and Carina Beritela (9.69m | 31-9.5) rounded out the shot put top-10 finishes for Hopkins, placing seventh and ninth, respectively.
 
The Blue Jays claimed an event win and three top-10 finishes in the high jump. Jaclyn Donoho captured first place with a season-best clearance of 1.57m (5-1.75), a mark that ranks 54th nationally this season. Claudia Ouimet followed with a personal-best jump of 1.57m (5-1.75), the eighth-highest mark in program history, to place third. Julia Widen added a ninth-place finish, clearing 1.32m (4-4).
 
Hopkins continued its success in the vertical events with a win in the pole vault, as Clarissa Newman cleared 3.35m (10-11.75) to take the event title. Cassidy Woodham (2.90m | 9-6.25) and Sarah Soto (2.75m | 9-0.25) followed with sixth and eighth-place finishes, respectively.
 
Chloe Zhang opened her afternoon in the field by placing second in the long jump with a leap of 5.33m (17-6), her first top-10 finish of the meet.
 
On the track, Zhang delivered a standout performance in the 60m dash, posting two of the top times in Division III this season. She clocked a 7.81 in the prelims, the 24th-fastest time nationally, before improving to a 7.79 in the finals to claim first place and the 23rd-fastest time in the nation. Mirra Klimov joined Zhang in the top-10, placing third with a time of 7.83.
 
Ouimet recorded Hopkins' fifth event win of the meet with a first-place finish in the 60m hurdles. Donoho added her second top-10 result of the day in the same event, placing sixth in 9.96.
 
Hopkins produced three top-10 finishes in the mile, led by Natalie Boquist, who captured the event title with a personal-best time of 5:08.04. Anne Hiraki (5:23.28) and Maya Eisenberg (5:23.88) followed with ninth and 10th-place finishes, respectively.
 
The Blue Jays swept the top three spots in the 3000m. Cameron Coletti claimed the event crown in 10:32.04, followed closely by Evangeline Dunckley (10:32.74) in second and Ainsley Edwards (10:35.31) in third. Rachel Allison added a fifth-place finish in 11:09.82.
 
In the 200m, Hopkins placed four athletes among the top 10, led by Lianne Saussy's fifth-place finish (26.53). Anna Zinsser (26.58), Ouimet (26.58) and Zhang (26.66) finished sixth through eighth, respectively.
 
Ava Zimmerman placed fifth in the 400m with a time of 1:02.25. In the 800m, Sofia Fernandez finished fourth (2:21.55), Emily Roskowski placed fifth (2:25.20) and Alexa Christensen took sixth (2:29.77) to give Hopkins three more top-10 finishes.
 
In the distance medley relay, the Blue Jays fielded three squads that all placed in the top 10. The team of Mackenzie Setton, Madison Moore, Lorna Arcese and Elena Blodnikar finished second in 12:04.41. Emma Kothari, Gabrielle Moore, Hanna Bruno and Lena Cakulev placed fourth in 12:11.80, while Diana Valentini, Lily Tremba, Ani Wedemeyer and Aisling Callahan rounded out the top five in 12:14.75.
 
Hopkins closed the meet with its eighth event win, as the 4x400m relay team of Saussy, Wedemeyer, Kothari and Ellie Lewis took first place in 3:59.63. The quartet of Ryan Bigelow, Cakulev, Bruno and Setton placed fourth in 4:10.39, while Evelyne Kim, Roskowski, Zinsser and Zimmerman added a fifth-place finish in 4:16.99.
 
Johns Hopkins returns to action on Friday, January 23, at the Dr. Sander Scorcher, hosted by Columbia University. Events at The Armory are scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m.
