BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins placed four players on the USA Lacrosse Magazine Preseason All-America Teams it was announced today. Senior
Reagan O'Brien was named to the first team, senior
Ava Angello and junior
Lacey Downey were named to the third team and sophomore
Laurel Gonzalez was named to the honorable mention team.
O'Brien was a consensus First Team All-America selection and the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year in 2025 after breaking the NCAA single season record with 103 career turnovers. She averaged 5.15 caused turnovers and in the NCAA First Round win over Liberty, she totaled 12 caused turnovers and 10 ground balls. She led the Big Ten and ranked ninth in the nation with 65 ground balls. O'Brien also tallied 17 draw controls, five assists and one goal.
Angello earned First Team All-Big Ten as well as Honorable Mention All-America honors from USA Lacrosse and Inside Lacrosse a year ago. She ranked second in the Big Ten in points (90) and third in goals (65). Nationally, she ranked 20
th in points and 17
th in goals. Angello had 17 multi-goal games and scored four or more goals six times. She ranks 10
th in school history in career points (211) and is eighth in career goals (158).
In her first season with the Blue Jays, Downey was named First Team All-Big Ten and earned Honorable Mention All-America honors from USA Lacrosse and Inside Lacrosse. She ranked third on the team in assists (30) and fourth in goals (28) and points (58) as a two-way midfielder. She also tallied 34 ground balls, 25 caused turnovers and 33 draws.
Gonzalez was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team, Second Team All-Big Ten and an Honorable Mention All-American by USA Lacrosse. She broke the program single season record with 166 draws and ranked 13
th in the nation. Primarily a draw specialist, she added eight goals, two assists and five ground balls. Gonzalez owns four of the top six single-game draw performances in school history and is already tied for sixth in career draws.
Hopkins will open the season on Saturday, February 7 at Liberty in a rematch of the 2025 NCAA First Round.
