LANCASTER, PA – Johns Hopkins senior
Erika Ezumba added another chapter to the Centennial Conference and Hopkins record books at the Cardinal Track and Field Classic, earning Centennial Conference Field Athlete of the Week honors. The recognition marks the fifth conference award of her career and makes her the third Blue Jay this season to receive the honor.
Ezumba led the Blue Jays to the team title at the Cardinal Track and Field Classic with record-breaking performances in the weight throw and a historic mark in the shot put. She reset both the Centennial Conference and Johns Hopkins records in the weight throw with a personal-best toss of 17.60 meters (57-9), the fourth-best performance in Division III this season. The mark earned a second-place finish and surpassed her previous conference and school record by nearly 0.30 meters.
She also captured an event victory in the shot put, recording a personal-best throw of 13.45 meters (44-1.5). That mark ranks as the second-farthest in program history, the sixth-farthest in CC history and the ninth-best nationally this season.
Johns Hopkins returns to action on Friday, January 23, at the Dr. Sander Scorcher, hosted by Columbia University. Events at The Armory are scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m.
