NEW YORK, NY – The Johns Hopkins women's track and field team delivered an outstanding performance Friday at the Dr. Sander Scorcher, hosted by Columbia University, posting some of the fastest times and top marks in Division III this season while competing against a field featuring numerous Division I programs. Day one was headlined by
Erika Ezumba, who rewrote the record book for the second straight week.
Ezumba once again starred in the weight throw, surpassing her mark from last week's Cardinal Track & Field Classic. The senior launched a personal-best throw of 19.17m (62-10.75) to secure the Blue Jays' lone event victory of the day. The mark shattered both the program and Centennial Conference records, ranks second in Division III this season and stands as the 19
th-best throw in Division III history.
In the weight throw open,
Phoebe Williams recorded the second-farthest mark in school history with a personal-best toss of 16.00m (52-6). Her performance earned a ninth-place finish and ranks 19
th in the nation this season.
Claudia Ouimet also made her mark, turning in two of the fastest performances in program history. She clocked a 9.03 in the 60m hurdles prelims—the third-fastest time in school history and 23
rd-fastest in Division III this season. She followed with a personal-best 8.02 in the 60m dash open, placing 16
th and recording the ninth-fastest time in Johns Hopkins history.
Hopkins showcased its distance depth in the 3000m, where
Mia Kotler,
Aisling Callahan and
Carter Brotherton each recorded top Division III times. Kotler led the trio with a 9:41.02, finishing 14
th while posting the third-fastest time in the nation this season and the eighth-fastest in program history. Callahan followed with a personal-best 9:57.19, the 15
th-fastest mark in Division III this year. Brotherton crossed in 10:00.08, good for the 19
th-fastest time in the nation this season.
In the 800m,
Lorna Arcese and
Hanna Bruno also turned in nationally competitive marks. Arcese ran 2:16.73, the seventh-fastest time in Division III this season, while Bruno's 2:18.20 ranks 19
th nationally.
The Blue Jays closed the day with three strong performances in the 400m dash.
Lianne Saussy led the group with a 58.85, placing 23
rd and recording the 35
th-fastest time in Division III this season.
Gabrielle Moore followed in 59.80 (57
th nationally), while
Madison Moore posted a 59.96, which ranks 66
th in the nation this season.
Johns Hopkins returns to action Saturday, January 24, to conclude competition at the Dr. Sander Scorcher. Events at The Armory are scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m.
