Catalano Paces Blue Jays to Conclude Dr. Sander Scorcher

Senior Ran 20th-Fastest Time in Division III History

NEW YORK, NY – The Johns Hopkins women's track and field team turned in an outstanding performance Saturday at the Dr. Sander Scorcher, hosted by Columbia University, posting several of the fastest times and top marks in Division III this season while competing against a field loaded with Division I programs. Adriana Catalano headlined the second day with one of the fastest mile performances in Division III history.

Catalano opened her indoor season in impressive fashion, clocking a personal-best 4:49.58 in the mile invitational. The time earned her a 13th-place finish in a deep field and ranks as the second-fastest mark in school history. It also sits second in Division III this season and stands as the 20th-fastest mile ever recorded at the Division III level.

Ani Wedemeyer and Emma Kothari added to the strong showing in the same event with nationally ranked performances of their own. Wedemeyer crossed in 4:57.85 to place 34th overall, a time that ranks seventh in the nation this season, while Kothari's 5:01.45 placed 37th and stands 21st nationally.

In the Mile Open, Diana Valentini earned a top-25 finish, placing 21st in 5:08.33—the 39th-fastest time in Division III this season.

The 4x400m relay team of Lianne Saussy, Madison Moore, Gabrielle Moore and Lorna Arcese also made a mark in the record book. The quartet finished fifth in 3:54.78, the fourth-fastest time in program history and the fifth-fastest mark in the nation this season.

Hopkins added a pair of top-20 finishes on the track from Anna Zinsser and Evangeline Dunckley. Zinsser placed 19th in the 200m dash with a time of 26.27, while Dunckley matched that placement in the 5,000m, crossing in 18:50.16.

In the field events, Claudia Ouimet highlighted the action with an event win in the long jump open, taking first with a leap of 5.31m (17-5.25). Chloe Zhang added a 12th-place finish in the long jump invitational with a mark of 5.25m (17-2.75).

The Blue Jays closed out the meet with two top-20 finishes in the shot put. Erika Ezumba placed 12th with a throw of 12.26m (40-2.75), while Phoebe Williams finished 20th at 11.70m (38-4.75).

Johns Hopkins returns to action Saturday, January 30, for the two-day Patriot Games, hosted by George Mason University at the George Mason Field House.
