BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins fell to visiting William & Mary, 176-85, in the Blue Jays' final dual meet of the season Friday afternoon. The Blue Jays slip to 6-4 on the season while the Tribe improve to 10-1.
Hopkins opened the meet with second and fourth place finishes in the 400 Medley Relay. The team of
Jaya Veerapaneni,
Amy Hu,
Ken Lee and
Elizabeth Cohen clocked in at 3:51.09. Veerapaneni turned in an NCAA B time with her leadoff leg of 56.37.
Anna Miler,
Katherine Chelus,
Kate Petitt and
Angela Kim then placed fourth in 3:51.61 – just 0.13 seconds out of third.
In the 1000 Free,
Melissa Er led the Blue Jays with a fourth-place finish in 10:40.22.
Julia Tuinman paced JHU with a fourth-place finish in the 200 Free as she touched in 1:54.54. She beat
Claire Han by just three-hundredths of a second. Lee and
Lily Rossmann then went two-three in the 100 Back. Lee finished in 56.50, an NCAA B time, while Rossmann touched in 57.12.
Chelus and
Rachel Davis took second and third in the 100 Breast. Chelus finished in 1:06.99, beating Davis to the wall by 0.13 seconds.
Maddie Horner then finished second in the 200 Fly with a swim of 2:07.30. Petitt followed in third place with a time of 2:09.49. Miler and
Kimberly Lan did the same in the 50 Free, clocking in at 24.03 and 24.12, respectively.
Cohen swam to a third-place finish in the 100 Free with a time of 52.15, beating the Tribe's Sarah Dunham by five-hundredths of a second. Lee followed with a second-place finish, and an NCAA B time, in the 200 Back (2:01.58). Rossmann finished in fourth place with a swim of 2:05.38, five-hundredths of a second out of third place. Hu led the Blue Jays in the 200 Breast with a third-place finish in 2:27.42, with Chelus placing fourth in 2:28.06.
Er took third place in the 500 Free as she finished in 5:11.68 while
Alex Watson placed fourth (5:14.81). Lee swam a 56.54 for third place in the 100 Fly, followed by Petitt in fourth (57.38). Davis followed with a second-place finish in the 200 IM as she touched in 2:08.79. Tuinman finished in 2:09.35, just one-hundredth of a second out of third place.
Hopkins ended the meet in record-breaking fashion in the 200 Free Relay. The team of Lan, Cohen, Miler and Veerapaneni won the race and took down the pool record with a time of 1:34.28. The quartet's time is also an NCAA B time.
Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, February 14 with the Blue Jay Invitational.
