PROVIDENCE, RI – Johns Hopkins opened its spring season on Saturday with a pair of matches at Brown and Babson. In the morning, Hopkins dropped a 7-0 decision at Brown and then lost a tight 4-3 match at 14
th-ranked Babson.
Babson grabbed wins at first and third doubles to take the first point of the match. Matia Cristiani and Sandra Sikharulidze beat
Sophia Kim and
Lia Melvin, 6-2, at one. Sarai Dorismond and Han Wang then clinched the doubles' point with a 6-2 win over
Claire Loftus and
Sahana Madala.
Kamila Wong and
Ava Li grabbed a win when they beat Alessandra Cristiani and Elizabeth Shu, 6-4, at three.
In singles, Matia Cristiani put Babson up 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Melvin at number one. Wong answered with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Dorismond at four to make it a 2-1 match. Madala then tied the match when she beat Tina Liu 6-1, 6-0 at five. Shu put the Beavers back on top with a 6-4, 7-6 win over Loftus at three. Sikharulidze then clinched the win when she won a tight 7-6, 7-6 match over Li at two.
Sydney Langer closed out the match with a come-from-behind win over Wang 1-6, 6-2, 7-5.
Hopkins returns to action on February 8 with a scrimmage versus Towson.
