FAIRFAX, VA – The Johns Hopkins women's track and field team turned in another strong performance on Saturday at the Patriot Games, hosted by George Mason University, showcasing its depth in the distance events for the second straight day while competing against a field that included several Division I programs. Day two was highlighted by
Elena Blodnikar, who recorded one of the fastest times in the nation this season.
Earlier in the week, the Blue Jays' 3000-meter squad was ranked second nationally in the latest USTFCCCA Event Squad Rankings, and Blodnikar—along with
Natalie Boquist,
Sydney Shock,
Cooper Brotherton,
Maya Eisenberg and
Anne Hiraki—backed up that ranking with a series of strong performances.
Blodnikar secured Hopkins' lone event win of the meet, posting a time of 9:59.80, which ranks 28
th nationally this season. Boquist followed with a third-place finish in 10:09.41, good for 54
th nationally, while Shock placed fifth after running a personal-best 10:23.02. Brotherton (10:31.93) and Eisenberg (10:36.39 | PR) rounded out the top 10 with seventh- and ninth-place finishes, respectively, while Hiraki added a top-15 finish, placing 15
th in 11:03.89.
Hopkins also recorded a pair of top-five finishes in the middle-distance events. In the 500 meters,
Lily Tremba placed fifth with a time of 1:20.96, the eighth-fastest mark in program history.
Ava Zimmerman followed with a fourth-place finish in the 800 meters, crossing the line in 2:18.91, which ranks 56
th nationally this season. In the 1000 meters,
Kayla Ritzman and
Alexa Christensen each recorded top-15 finishes, with Ritzman placing ninth in 3:15.90 and Christensen finishing 11
th in 3:17.20.
To conclude the track events, the quartet of Zimmerman, Tremba, Ritzman and Christensen combined to place sixth in the 4x400-meter relay, finishing in 4:13.73.
In the field events, the Blue Jays totaled five top-10 finishes.
Clarissa Newman led the way in the pole vault with a fourth-place finish after clearing 3.81 meters (12-6), the 11
th-highest mark in Division III this season.
Cassidy Woodham added a ninth-place finish with a season-best clearance of 3.06 meters (10-0.5).
In the throws,
Kellen Ievers placed seventh in the shot put with a mark of 10.39 meters (34-1.25). In the weight throw,
Olivia Reid recorded the seventh-farthest throw in program history, placing ninth with an 11.22-meter (36-9.75) effort, while
Carina Beritela followed in 10
th with the eighth-farthest mark in school history at 11.03 meters (36-2.25).
Johns Hopkins returns to action on Friday, February 6, when the Blue Jays compete at the Fasttrack Invitational in Staten Island, NY. Events at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex are scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m.
